Routing Number Guide

What to Give Someone Wiring Money to Your Navy Federal Account

Verified against Navy Federal's published wire-transfer instructions, September 21, 2026.

Give the sender five things: your name exactly as Navy Federal titles your account, your account number, routing number 256074974, Navy Federal's address (820 Follin Lane SE, Vienna, VA 22180), and — for money coming from outside the US — SWIFT/BIC NFCUUS33XXX. That is the complete list Navy Federal publishes for receiving a wire. Everything else people add is either optional or wrong.

The set, in the form you can paste into a message

Two details in that block are the ones people get wrong, and both are cheap to get right.

Your name has to match the title, not the way you sign it

Navy Federal's wording is "name as titled on NFCU account." On a joint account that is the title the credit union holds on file — which may include both holders, or a suffix — not the short version you use elsewhere. A wire addressed to a name the receiving institution cannot match to an account does not bounce back instantly; it typically sits in manual repair while someone tries to identify the intended account, and that process is measured in days, not minutes.

Check the exact title in online banking or on a statement before you send the instructions, rather than reconstructing it from memory.

The number to credit is the account number, not the member number

Navy Federal issues a member number that identifies you, and separate account numbers that identify each share or loan. A wire needs the account number of the specific account you want the money to land in. Sending the member number is a common substitution and it does not resolve.

One thing that surprises people: a wire does not have to go to a deposit account. Navy Federal states that wire deposits can be made to savings, checking, and Money Market Savings Accounts, and also to a loan, credit card, mortgage, Checking Line of Credit, or lease account. Paying a Navy Federal loan from an overseas account is therefore a wire to that loan's account number, not a payment through the usual transfer flow.

International wires: three extra instructions

Note that the routing number does not change for international receipts. It is 256074974 for ACH, for domestic wires, and for incoming international wires alike.

What it costs and how fast it lands

Receiving is free on Navy Federal's side — the published fee is $0, with the note that the sending institution may charge to initiate the transfer. So the amount that arrives can be less than the amount sent, and that deduction is made before Navy Federal ever sees the money.

Timing: Navy Federal processes incoming wires the same day when they are received before 6:30 pm Eastern. After that cut-off, or on a non-processing day, it moves to the next one. Because the sending institution and any correspondent bank each take their own slice of time, the cut-off that matters for you is the sender's, which is earlier.
