Where to Find Your Navy Federal Routing Number in the App or Online Banking
Checked against Navy Federal’s own digital-banking tutorials, direct-deposit and mobile-deposit pages, September 22, 2026.
Navy Federal’s routing number is 256074974 for every member, and the app will not show it to you on a “my details” screen — because Navy Federal never built one. If you need the number from Navy Federal rather than from a search result, the official route is Accounts → your checking or savings account → Account Services → Manage Direct Deposit → Find Employer, accept the Terms of Use, and — if your employer is not listed — back out and choose Manual Form. That downloads a form Navy Federal has already filled in with your name, account number and routing number. The other official place it appears is the footer of every single page on navyfederal.org.
The two official ways to get it from Navy Federal itself
Everything below comes from Navy Federal’s published instructions, not from guesswork about what a screen probably looks like.
1. The Manage Direct Deposit form (best when someone else needs your details)
Navy Federal publishes a step-by-step walkthrough for setting up direct deposit. In its own words:
“Sign in to your Navy Federal account. From the Accounts page, click the checking or savings account where you’d like your paycheck deposited. Select Account Services. Then, select Manage Direct Deposit. From the dropdown menu, select the checking or savings account where you’d like your paycheck deposited. Select Find Employer. Read and accept the Terms of Use.”
And then the sentence that actually matters for anyone hunting for their routing number:
“If you can’t find your employer from the list, click the back option and select the Manual Form which you can download and provide to your employer for setup.”
That Manual Form is the answer to “where do I find my routing number in the app.” You are not meant to read digits off a screen and retype them — Navy Federal generates a finished, pre-filled document and hands it to you. Handing your employer that PDF does three things copying numbers by hand cannot: it removes the chance of a typo, it pairs your account number with the correct routing number automatically, and it gives your payroll department something in Navy Federal’s own format.
Navy Federal says the setup takes “less than 3 minutes,” and that paychecks typically land “within 1-2 pay periods,” in many cases as early as your next pay date.
2. The site footer (best when you just need the number)
Every page on navyfederal.org — the digital banking hub, the direct-deposit page, the mobile-deposit page, the tutorials index — carries Routing Number: 256074974 in its footer. That is the single hardest citation available for the number, because it is printed by Navy Federal on its own site rather than repeated by third parties.
For most tasks this is all you need. Navy Federal uses one routing number nationwide, so there is no per-branch or per-state variant to look up. If you want the reasoning behind that, see Does the Navy Federal Routing Number Change by State?
Why you cannot find a “view my routing number” button
This is worth stating plainly, because people spend a long time tapping around looking for it. Navy Federal publishes an index of 38 digital-banking video tutorials, grouped into Account & Settings, Move Money, Payments, My MakingCents and general topics. They cover things like setting up personalized notifications, resetting a username, viewing account statements, ordering cashier’s checks, making a mobile deposit, managing cards, using Zelle and setting up direct deposit.
Not one of those 38 tutorials is about displaying your routing number or account number. There is no official walkthrough for it, because there is no screen for it to describe. The closest official offering is the direct deposit path above — which is why it, and not an account-details screen, is the real answer.
The app’s bottom navigation bar, as described across those tutorials, runs More, Deposits, Move Money and Payments. Nothing in it is labelled for account numbers. If a website tells you to tap a specific button to reveal a nine-digit number, that instruction did not come from Navy Federal.
Which route fits what you are actually doing
| You need to… | Use this | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Give an employer your deposit details | Manage Direct Deposit → Manual Form | Pre-filled by Navy Federal, already formatted for payroll |
| Set up an ACH transfer or bill payment | Type 256074974 from the footer | One number for all members; no lookup required |
| Receive an international wire | The full instruction set, not just the number | Sender also needs SWIFT/BIC and Navy Federal’s address; see incoming wire instructions |
| Verify a number someone gave you | The check-digit test | Catches most mistyped digits; see what each of the nine digits means |
Two cut-off times that get mixed up
People looking for app instructions often collide with the mobile deposit rules, which are a different thing entirely. Navy Federal’s mobile deposit path is: sign in, select Deposits from the bottom navigation bar, accept the Terms and Conditions, then Make Deposit. Endorse the back with “For Mobile Deposit Only at NFCU.”
The deposit cut-off is 6 pm ET on business days. Submit before it and up to $275 is available the next business day, with the remainder on the second business day after approval; after it, or on weekends, both slip a day later. Limits are $50,000 aggregate per business day and 10 check deposits per day on personal accounts.
Do not confuse that 6 pm ET with the 6:30 pm ET cut-off Navy Federal publishes for processing incoming wires. They are unrelated deadlines, and mixing them up is the most common way to misjudge when money lands.
If neither route works
- Use a browser rather than the app for the Manage Direct Deposit path — Navy Federal’s walkthrough shows the web and app screens side by side, and the downloadable form is easier to save on a computer.
- Confirm you are signed in to the account you actually want the number tied to; the form is generated per selected account.
- Call Navy Federal at 1-888-842-6328, the member services number published on its site. Dial a number you already have — never one that arrived in an email or text.
